  • The transition from a line supervisor to a mid-level manager is one of the most challenging shifts in law enforcement leadership. This one-day interactive course is designed specifically for new and aspiring middle managers to help them navigate this critical transition as well as offering tools to the seasoned manager. It addresses the nuances of moving from tactical, hands-on supervision to strategic leadership that focuses on organizational stewardship, team development, and fostering a positive agency culture.

    Led by Dr. Marshall Jones, a seasoned police practitioner, researcher, and consultant, the course covers a comprehensive range of topics aimed at refining management skills, understanding organizational dynamics, and enhancing leadership effectiveness. Participants will gain insights into leadership theories, team building, conflict resolution, effective communication, and much more. With practical tools, in-class assessments, and real-world examples, this course equips participants with the skillsets needed to thrive as middle managers and contribute positively to their agencies' success.

Dr. Marshall Jones

Marshall has researched police recruiting and retention for over 25 years. His background as a police practitioner, applied researcher, consultant, and trainer provide the foundation to help agencies meet the drastic changes in police recruiting and retention with actionable and common-sense approaches. Dr. Jones leverages best practices and deploys a multiciliary research approach in assessing, training, and advising agencies on issues related to the interdependent aspects of leadership development, recruiting, retention, performance, job satisfaction, and agency culture.
