  • This course is designed to equip law enforcement professional staff with essential skills in leadership, communication, and team dynamics, emphasizing practical approaches for navigating complex organizational environments. Participants will explore the distinct yet interconnected roles of leadership, followership, and management, building a foundation to understand and influence team dynamics even in the absence of formal authority. By engaging with the Leadership Pathfinding Model and related frameworks, students will develop a personal leadership style rooted in self-awareness, active listening, and servant leadership principles. Emphasis on active listening, rapport-building, and trust will enhance participants’ ability to foster positive relationships within teams and across generations.

    Further, the course addresses challenges common in multi-generational workplaces and offers strategies for bridging generational gaps, utilizing the unique strengths of each generation for organizational success. Through practical application, participants will learn to recognize and manage disruptive behaviors in the workplace, using tailored techniques for conflict resolution and ethical influence. By the end of the course, participants will have refined their abilities to communicate effectively, build trust, and contribute to a resilient and inclusive organizational culture, ultimately enhancing both individual and team performance.

Dr. Marshall Jones

Marshall has researched police recruiting and retention for over 25 years. His background as a police practitioner, applied researcher, consultant, and trainer provide the foundation to help agencies meet the drastic changes in police recruiting and retention with actionable and common-sense approaches. Dr. Jones leverages best practices and deploys a multiciliary research approach in assessing, training, and advising agencies on issues related to the interdependent aspects of leadership development, recruiting, retention, performance, job satisfaction, and agency culture.
